Schools and companies sign up for regional science fair

Schools and companies throughout the South East are signing up for the biggest regional science event in the UK – the 2018 Big Bang Fair South East.

Gatwick Airport is headline sponsor of this vibrant event, packed with hundreds of interactive workshops, shows and other STEM-related activities.

“Gatwick is pleased to, once again, be headline sponsor for The Big Bang Fair South East, especially as this year our sponsorship has enabled the event to take place across two days, for the first time.”

“Our objective is to inform the next generation of young people about the wide range of applications of STEM skills at the airport and inspire them to choose STEM subjects – helping to build a pipeline of talent for the future.” Paula Aldridge Community Engagement Manager

This event, which began in 2012 with less than 2,000 attendees, is now being held over two days: Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th June at the South of England Showground and is regionally co-ordinated by STEM Sussex. Bigger and better than ever, attendance is expected to top 2017’s record of 8,900 9-19-year-olds and their teachers.

“In my opinion this is the most exciting and inspiring regional event in the STEM outreach calendar. It’s a real privilege to be working on it and I’m particularly enjoying sourcing a wide range of workshops, shows and exhibitor activities that students will enjoy.” Estelle Whewell, STEM Sussex Acting project Manager.

The Big Bang Fair South East links employers, education institutions and professional bodies with young people and their teachers in a day that highlights further education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

As well as a varied range of fun, noisy and exciting shows and activities, STEM Ambassadors and other industry representatives will be on hand to show young people what real science and engineering careers involve.

2018 also marks the year of engineering so we look forward to celebrating and inspiring a record number of next generation of engineers.
