About Crawley STEMfest

Crawley STEMfest takes place in schools and colleges, in STEM Clubs and throughout the community during May and June each year, with events for people of all ages.

Crawley STEMfest 2017 launched on 4th April with a Manor Royal comedy night. You can read all about it here. Speakers included sixth-form twins, Megan and Elizabeth O’Shea from Science Rocks, who shared their STEM journey with us. You can view their video of the evening here.

The festival culminates with the Big Bang Fair South East on Wednesday 28th June. You can read a draft evaluation of the event here:

The headline event sponsor for both the Big Bang Fair South East and Crawley STEMfest is Gatwick Airport Limited.

The Big Bang Fair South East is a fun, action-packed day for more than 8,000 young people aged 9-19, and is an excellent opportunity for the science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) community to come together to enthuse and inspire young people about college and university courses and careers in STEM. You can check out the Big Bang Fair South East video to see some of the activities at the 2016 event.

It is also a celebration of the achievements of young people through the regional heats of the Big Bang UK Young Scientists & Engineers Competition.

Schools and colleges are invited to get involved with Crawley STEMfest and the Big Bang Fair South East, both unique opportunities for teachers to forge links with businesses and individuals in the STEM community.

“It’s fantastic that the Big Bang Fair South East was even bigger and better than last year. Not only is it a great way for us as a company to contribute to our local community and to promote the Earth Sciences in education, but it’s also a great opportunity for our staff to volunteer here, to connect with the students and teachers, and to share their passion and enjoyment for science and technology. Today’s students are the future workforce, and we hope that they have been inspired today by the diversity of people, and opportunities that can be unlocked when they consider a career in STEM”.

The University of Brighton through STEM Sussex will be hosting Crawley STEMfest in partnership with Crawley Borough Council and Central Sussex College.
